Chinese rivals to fight it out for Sh29bn Turkana dam deal - 7 months ago, 11 July 19:00
The High Court has stopped the National Irrigation Board (NIB) from re-evaluating the tender for construction of a mega dam in Turkana County as ordered by the State procurement watchdog pending determination of a case filed by a consortium of three Chinese firms.
The consortium, which won the tender for the building of the Lowaat dam despite quoting Sh11 billion more than lowest bidder, moved to court to fight the cancellation of the lucrative deal.
The three firms -- Sinotec Limited, Toddy Civil Engineering Limited and Zhejiang Provisional No.1 Water Conservancy & Electric Power Construction Group Holdings -- quoted Sh29 billion.
China International Water and Electric Corp, which was the lowest bidder at Sh17.9 billion, successfully petitioned the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB) to cancel the award.
