The death toll in the ethnic clashes at Nessuit area in Njoro, Nakuru County has reached six after two more bodies were discovered on Friday forcing the government to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

Hundreds have been displaced from their homes and many more are nursing injuries after clashes erupted on Wednesday night in what residents claim is a fight for a piece of land near the Mau Forest cut line after scores were evicted from the forest.

Two chiefs from the area were arrested on Friday in connection with the violence while police said they have launched a manhunt for 20 people believed to be behind the clashes.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mr. Mongo Chimwanga confirmed the arrests and the curfew saying those who defy the law will be arrested.

Mr. Chimwanga at the same time said those selling land in the area will also be arrested and charged.

The decision on the curfew came after a day long meeting with Mr. Chimwanga, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, MP Charity Kathambi and Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi.
