Growing up, our parents looked up to the likes of Pele, JJ Okocha, Maradona, Kadenge, Kano, and Zidane. As time went on, new stars were born and history made. For Victor Wanyama, being the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League was a dream come true. As you celebrate his numerous achievements, here are a few facts about the Kenyan footballer.

Victor Wanyama has become a household name in Kenya and internationally. is a professional football player who plays for the English club, Tottenham Hotspurs, and the Kenya national side, Harambee stars. Victor Mugubi attended Kamkunji High School in Nairobi, where his footballing journey kicked off. To date, his career growth has been admirable.

Sporting talent most certainly runs in Victor Wanyama family. His father, Noah Wanyama was a footballer and played for AFC leopards in the 1980s. Victor is the younger brother to Kenyan professional footballer McDonald Mariga. He currently has no club but played for several European clubs including Inter Milan. Thomas and Sylvester Wanyama, his other brothers, are also footballers and play in the Kenyan Premier League. Victor's sister, Mercy is a professional basketball player in the US.

Victor played at JMJ Youth Academy before joining Kenyan Premier League side, Nairobi City Stars and later AFC Leopards.

Victor is a defensive midfielder and captains Harambee Stars. He debuted for the Kenyan National team at age 15. Wanyama has 52 appearances and five goals for Harambee stars.
