Four staff members of Kiambu-based Starshine Blue School sustained injuries after the institution’s bus they were travelling in rolled at the notorious Karai stretch in Laini on Naivasha-Nakuru highway on Thursday.
Several students also sustained injuries and were rushed to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
A medic at the hospital said a majority of the students escaped unhurt in the 9am accident.
“The four staff members are under close observation and are responding well to treatment,” said the medic.
Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru said the bus, which was carrying 45 students and five staff members, was headed to Nakuru from Kiambu when the accident occurred.
“The driver claims the brakes failed but we shall ascertain the truth after the vehicle is inspected,” he said.
A witness, Joseph Nga’ng’a, said the bus driver lost control after the vehicle hit a speed bump at the Laini before it rolled.
“The vehicle was being driven at high speed when the accident occurred,” said the Laini resident.
Another witness, Francis Njoroge, said the speed bumps erected along the well-known black spot were a danger to motorists.
“We have complained several times about the bumps which are the main cause of accidents along the stretch,” he claimed.
The residents called on the relevant authorities to act in bid to curb the high number of accident along the dangerous stretch.
