There are possible reasons why you’re having painful intercourse and whatever discomfort you’re having shouldn’t go silent. Sex is meant to be pleasurable, not painful we all know that, but here are five points you should consider before making your conclusion.

If you’re feeling totally turned on but your vagina feels tight and dry,  lubrication can be your quick fix. There’s no sexual pleasure in a tight and dry vagina, if foreplay isn’t working, lube it.

Let your partner know what turns you on, you know your body better. You know which position hits your g-spot best, if he’s not doing it right, guide him through it without bruising his ego.

A displaced IUD could be causing sharp pains or your contraceptive pills could be exhibiting side effects.

Breastfeeding can change your hormonal levels and cause the vagina to be drier and the skin to thin. Once your body is back in tiptop shape, and your hormones are stable, sex will painless.

Sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia and gonorrhoea can cause pelvic pain during intercourse, as can a UTI. Be sure to see a doctor.

While there are many potential causes of painful sex, there are also plenty of treatments. Painful sex is a pain, but it doesn’t have to be permanent.
