A boda boda rider was charged with robbing a Chinese trader of Sh1.9 million at gunpoint.
Stephen Wambua Muteti, 27, was accused of robbing Wang Yuan along Likoni Road in Nairobi on January 18, 2017, jointly with others, while armed with toy pistols, a real pistol and two bullets.
Yuang was ambushed by men on a motorcycle after slowing at the junction of Likoni and Enterprise roads after withdrawing money from a bank along Mombasa Road.
Muteti was arrested 11 days after the alleged robbery alongside three of his accomplices.
The court heard that Muteti shot at police officers when he and his accomplices were ordered to surrender at Pipeline estate in Embakasi, where he was shot and injured in the right thigh. He has been admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital until Sunday.
He denied the charges before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.
Prosecution opposed his release on bond claiming he absconded court after he was released on bond while on trial over similar charges.
Muteti admitted jumping bail after he was charged in 2017. His accomplices are undergoing trial while in remand.
