Manchester United could choose to swap Paul Pogba for PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, according to a report on the Independent website. United are ready to do some serious business once again this summer, with this report claiming that Jose Mourinho wants ‘four key players’ and is willing to shed as many as seven of his first team in a summer overhaul. Apparently, ‘Mourinho has convinced his boss that the team needs further work, and more top-quality players are necessary to compete with Manchester City. Woodward is fully behind that.’ Because of course a failure to beat Spain’s fifth-best side can firmly be laid at the door of City’s ability to spend their money more wisely. United have already spent around £300m on new transfers since Mourinho was appointed in the summer of 2016. Pogba worsened the team when he came on for Fellaini. Pogba to be sold straight away this summer. Off to PSG and chat Raiola about getting Verratti in a swap. Pogba and PSG are a perfect match. Make it happen. — Stephen Healy (@stephenhealy87) March 13, 2018 The names being suggested for a new centre-half partner for Eric Bailly are predictably Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Tottenham’s Alderweireld, but it is the mention of a Verratti/Pogba swap that is eye-catching. Miguel Delaney writes: ‘One plan was a potential swap for Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti, especially since the two share Mino Raiola as agent, but that possibility is still seen as some way off. United still value Pogba as a player for their future, and all involved are determined to make it work.’ United do want want Delaney calls a ‘controlling midfielder’; there is also a mention of the possibility of Real Madrid offering Toni Kroos as part of an offer for David De Gea. The Spaniard is said to be unhappy at being paid rather a lot less than either Pogba or Alexis Sanchez.
