Two children, aged three and seven, were pulled out of a burning house on Saturday morning at Uthiru area, Kabete. The fire broke out in the children’s bedroom at around 8am and was quickly put out by Nairobi fire brigade. The children’s mother Ms Mary Wangari was in the kitchen when the fire broke out. Her children had not yet woken up. She alerted neighbours who came in haste and saved the children from the flames that had already started spreading to the living room. PHOTO | FAUSTINE NGILA Area assistant chief Paul Kibara Gaitho, confirming the incident, said he was walking in the area when he heard screams. He rushed to the scene only to find a sorrowful Ms Wangari being comforted by neighbours. HEAVY LOSSES “No one has been injured but the lady is counting heavy losses since the fire consumed everything in the bedroom. Right now we can’t establish exactly what caused the fire but we thank God everybody escaped unhurt,” he said. Youths volunteered to clear the debris from the two-bedroom house on first floor. They however made away with Ms Wangari’s sub-woofer. “This is only inflicting more pain on a person who has lost so much to the fire. How on earth would anyone imagine stealing from a woman who has been left with barely anything? It’s very shameful to make it more difficult for her to start life afresh,” said Eunice Wacuka, a neighbuor.
