- An amateur Mexico player was killed during a football match in Tochtepec
- An armed gang numbering 20 invaded the pitch and shot over 100 bullets
- Police say the incident has been linked to a confrontation the previous day
A Mexican footballer has been shot dead after an armed gang stormed an amateur match and fired over 100 gunshots.
Local sources reported that the 20 men armed with rifles kidnapped a fan after trying to steal mobile phones and wallets.
The gang then allegedly asked for the player wearing No 9 during Real Tepeaca's match against Tochtepec - before they brutally opened fire on him.
Horrific images show the player in his late twenties, lying face-down on the floor in his pool of blood as he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fourty police officers and investigators arrived the scene and found over 100 used bullet casings on the pitch.
Local media reports also suggest that the gang kidnapped a 19-year-old man as they left the football field but the authorities are said to have found the kidnapped teenager hours later by a nearby motorway.
The kidnapped fellow told police that the men had mistook him with someone else and let him go hours later.
Police sources have said that they believe that the killing is linked to a confrontation that took place at a petrol station the day before.
This incident took place during an amateur football match in the town of Tochtepec, which is in the Mexican state of Puebla and no arrests have been made.
