Liberia's President-elect George Opong Weah has responded to President Uhuru Kenyatta two weeks after he congratulated him. Responding to Uhuru's call on realising Pan-Africanism, Weah confirmed that he will work together with Uhuru. Weah added that he was deeply honoured by President Uhuru's words while citing immense challenge in realising Africa's development Liberia's president- elect, George Weah has welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta's congratulatory message on his presidential victory in the presidential election held in Liberia on Wednesday, December 27 . In his statement Weah expressed gratitude citing he was deeply honoured by the presidents words who had congratulated him for having put up a spirited campaign. "His Excellency, President Kenyatta, I am deeply honoured by your words" wrote Weah in part. In his congratulatory message, President Uhuru had said he looked forward to working closely with Weah's administration and to strengthen ties between Kenya and Liberia. "Kenya sends its very best wishes to him and to his administration; and we all look forward to even closer ties in the years ahead. Congratulations, Mr President-elect," read Uhuru's statement in part. The president-elect responded by saying despite the immense challenges faced by the leaders, Kenya and Liberia would work together to contribute to Africa's development as a whole. "The challenge is immense, but in Union strong, Kenya and Liberia will together contribute to the development of Africa as a whole." Weah won a presidential run off poll with a landslide in December, beating Joseph Boakai with more than 60% of the vote. He is set to succeed outgoing Head of State Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who was the continent's first female president. His swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place on January 20 and the Carabao Cup semi-final with Chelsea on January 24. The former footballer who plied his trade at Monaco, PSG, AC Milan and Chelsea is the only African player to ever win the World Player of the Year and indeed the prestigious Ballon D'or.
