Raila's ODM to punish coast members already campaigning for DP

- Members of the ODM party who have been publicly campaign for Ruto will be punished by the party

- A meeting will be held on Monday, June 18, to decide on the punishment they will receive

- This comes after their support for Ruto caused a rift among leaders in the coastal region which is opposition stronghold

As 2022 presidential campaigns intensify, more trouble looms in Deputy President William Ruto campaign trail as his new found allies from the opposition camp face punishment threats.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party members from the coastal region who have been publicly rooting for Ruto might be forced to call it quits depending on what punishment the party will settle on.

According to a report by KTN on Tuesday, June 12 , the party's National Executive Council and its parliamentary group is expected to hold a meeting to discuss disciplinary action for almost a dozen of the rebel members.

The meeting which will be held on Monday, June 18, will be chaired by the party leader Raila Odinga whom is yet to declare his stand in the 2022 election.

According to Homa Bay woman representative, Gladys Wanga, the tens of the party members who have defied the party's rules will either have to make a defection to the ruling party so they can confidently campaign for the DP.

"I think they should either make a defection to Jubilee and therefore campaign openly ,relinquish their sit and go to seek reelection on the party they are supporting," said Wanga

Among other ODM members who have been vocal about supporting Ruto include Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa, her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi.

This comes at the backdrop of the formation of a crack in the formerly united opposition at the Coast, with the region’s two political kingpins pulling in different directions following the peace pact between Raila and Uhuru.

Kingi has since led his allies to support the formation of a coastal party which will root for Ruto's presidential bid come 2022.
