President Uhuru Kenyatta served as the personal assistant to the then opposition supremo Kenneth Matiba during his unsuccessful presidential bid in 1992. Deputy President William Ruto rose from carrying diaries and running small errands for YK92 National Coordinator, Joseph Kimkung, who later became Mt Elgon MP. Kimkung who was then based at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) allocated Ruto a small office where the dutiful hustler to deliver Kanu T-shirts across the country ahead of campaign teams. Apart from Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamoong who was former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's PA for eight years, other notables who rose from PA to high office include Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i. He was PA to powerful cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae while Nairobi Senator MP Johnson Sakaja was State House Director of Liaison Patrick Ngatia's PA. Presidential Private Secretary Jomo Gecaga used to be former Rarieda MP Raphael Tuju's personal assistant.
