Three nights full board accommodation at a four-star hotel in Diani, South Coast including flights and ground transport, will be up for grab, as a field of 110 golfers drawn from various clubs in the Western region converge on the lake-side Nyanza Golf Club course for the fourth leg of the 2018 Nation Classic series.

The special prize which is in addition to other take away prizes, kind courtesy of Vercelli, a Tours and Travel company which has partnered with the Nation Media Group in this weekend’s tournament, will be awarded to the overall winner and the staff winner.

“We are very delighted to partner with the Nation Media Group in its golf series. Because of the popularity of the golf series in the country, we believe it will be of great benefit for our company,” said Osborn Tiema Omucheyi, a director of Vercelli.

“It is also part of our contribution to the game of golf in the country,’’ added Tiema, who will also be in Kisumu to talk to golfers on how they can benefit by partnering with Vercelli.

The firm has also donated 15 return tickets to Kisumu on Silverstone Air, for Nation staff who will be attending the golf event.

Other prizes on offer include trophies for the men, lady, guest and staff winners.

Nyanza Golf Club captain Sam Deya thanked the Nation Media Group for returning to the region after staying out last year.

Also joining the Nation event in Kisumu, will be Ketepa that have offered gift vouchers and drinking water to the players.

“I wish to register my sincere appreciation to the Nation Media Group for its continued support of Nyanza Club and other clubs in the country over the years. We are equally happy to host other golfers from Kakamega, Kitale, Nakuru, Karen, Nandi Bears, Mumias, Thika and Muthaiga. This is a great honour to Nyanza,’’ said Deya.

Besides the captain, some of the players who will be going for the top prize are long hitting David Sate, Jiten Pabari, Joseph Atito and veteran Paul Otieno.

Leading the staff will be NMG chairman Wilfred Kiboro, while the guests include Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) Western region representative Johnson Korir of Nandi, Nancy Steinmann, Esther Karuga, Paul Muhia, and Shiro Kaime all from Nakuru, Njoro’s Dominic Walubengo, and Nyali’s big hitter Charles Odoo.

At Ruiru Sports Club, over 150 players were drawn for Saturday's inaugural Amari Gardens Golf tournament sponsored by Amari Gardens, a Nairobi-based real estate firm which is behind the mega gated community project on the Thika-Gatanga road.

Joining them for weekend sponsorship will be Braeburn Schools. Ruiru captain Peter Mwaura said he was expecting more players through post entries.

“We are looking forward to an exciting tournament with lots of prizes. Our aim is to interact with our existing and potential customers” said Sam Kangau, the managing director, Amari Gardens.

Another big field will be at the par 72 Thika Sports Club course for the Kenya Tea Packers Limited sponsored tourney.
