Paralympic Snowboarder Brenna Huckaby Dedicated Her Gold Medal to Her Little Girl

Snowboarder Brenna Huckaby began her first Paralympics Games by taking home the gold for the women’s snowboard-cross. Huckaby had her 2-year-old daughter Lilah on her mind the entire time.   Huckaby, who battled cancer as a teen and had to have her right leg amputated, dedicated her performance to Lilah. She also hoped that it would send a powerful message to her L.O. Time to get back to Mommy hood and snowboarding as we gear up for South Korea. The Paralympics are held at the same venue as the Olympics, we are just two weeks after! We will have our own opening and closing ceremonies and the hype is just as big. I compete in snowboard cross and banked slalom! I am in LL1 classification which is made up of women with above the knee amputations, double below the knee amputations, and MS. I hope y’all send me pictures of you and your families cheering on the moms, dads, women, and men of Team USA 😍 I compete March 12&16 Korean time. #athlete #parasnowboard #womeninsport #womenempowerment #mommy #happy #motherhood #motherdaughter A post shared by Brenna Huckaby (@bren_hucks) on Feb 15, 2018 at 8:45am PST “It’s incredible,” Huckaby told The Salt Lake Tribune. “In the start gate I said to myself, ‘For Lilah,’ because that is one of the main reasons … and pushing through trying times to show her that she can do anything she wants. It was hard today, but I just reminded myself why I do this and it’s for her and that helped.” She also said of the experience in Pyeongchang: “It was such a trying and intense day and to be able to walk away successful is huge." Sums up my day 🥇 I couldn’t have done it alone. Thank you to my family, my fiancé, and his family for the support with Lilah. I am thankful for very supportive coaches and USA staff! Holy moly. What. A. Day. @lane.clegg @grahamwatanabe @codybx A post shared by Brenna Huckaby (@bren_hucks) on Mar 12, 2018 at 5:42am PDT Huckaby later took to Instagram to share this sweet shot of herself holding Lilah after winning the gold. Alongside the photo, she wrote, "Win or lose I will always have you. I’m so proud to be your mommy, Lilah. I hope if anything you learn to always be stronger and better than your biggest challenge. I’m enjoying spending this moment with my family more than anything." Win or lose I will always have you. I’m so proud to be your mommy, Lilah. I hope if anything you learn to always be stronger and better than your biggest challenge. I’m enjoying spending this moment with my family more than anything💜💕🥇☺️ A post shared by Brenna Huckaby (@bren_hucks) on Mar 13, 2018 at 3:55am PDT What an awesome moment for this inspiring athlete and proud mom! No doubt Lilah is already incredibly empowered by her mom's words of wisdom. And surely, one day she'll look up to her mom as a shining example of how dedication and belief ...
