After starring for the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women’s Premier League side, Chase Amira and the national team in the 2017 season, talented forward Pauline Naise has revealed why she ditched the discipline for football.
Naise, who managed 21 goals for Amira last season, decamped to the FKF women’s Premier League side, Soccer Queens in January, citing insincerity by her hockey side to honour the terms agreed in the contract. The lanky striker said Amira promised a timely pay and accommodation in the contract signed in January 2017, prompting her to resign from her fitness coach job at Kakamega High School in favour of playing professional hockey.
“It’s sad that Amira never honoured their part despite her good performance that led to her national team call up for the Africa Cup of Nations staged in Egypt.
She said: “I joined Amira in 2017 and they made good promises in the contract but honoured none. I resigned as a fitness coach at Kakamega High School where I enjoyed some privileges like free accommodation to play for the bankers, who had promised to offer similar privileges, which never came to pass,” he said.
“Last year in August, I received a better offer from Soccer Queens and despite having time remaining on my contract with Amira, I decided to change careers. I really struggled financially when was at Amira unlike here where allowances are paid on time and on top of that, they have offered me a fitness coach job at St. Christopher’s School in Karen.”
She said her immediate agenda is to adapt to playing football. She, however urged Amira to respect players and promise terms they can deliver.
