A mum has admitted killing her 18-month-old son after he fell to his death from the sixth floor of a block of flats. Gemma Procter, 23, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of toddler Elliot, who died in October last year in Bradford. Procter was due to go on trial today accused of murder, but admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility during a 10-minute long hearing. Prosecutors accepted the plea, and Procter will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on June 15, after further psychiatric reports are complete. Elliot died after the fall at the Newcastle House flats, in the Barkerend area of Bradford, in October last year. Attempts were made to save the toddler who, witnesses said, was naked as he fell on to the cobbles. Despite the efforts of people at the flats in the Barkerend area of the city, police said it was quickly apparent that he had died. At the time of the tragedy a man - who identified himself as Ms. Procter's sister's boyfriend - said the family are "devastated" at what has happened but would not comment further. A neighbour said: "I can't believe what has happened. I knew the family and they had two young children that I saw in prams a few times. "I saw police escorting people from the building last night but I had no idea what had happened. I think the family who lived in the flat had been there for around a year. "They were in their early 20s and her boyfriend had been round to my flat a few times just asking for milk or usual things. I can't believe it." Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen said after the toddler's death: "This is clearly an extremely traumatic incident and specially trained officers are working to support the child’s family members and those who witnessed what took place. "It is no exaggeration to say those who witnessed this incident will have been deeply traumatized by what they saw."
