Manchester United demolish hapless Stoke City to narrow City's lead to 12 points

Manchester United beat Stoke City 3-0 at Old Trafford on Monday. Goals from Valencia, Martial and Lukaku handed United the comfortable victory. Jose Mourinho's side are now 12 points behind league leaders Manchester City English Premier League giants Manchester United on Monday, January 15 secured a 3-0 comfortable win over relegation-threatened side Stoke City at Old Trafford. Wing-back Antonio Valencia handed the hosts the lead within 9 minutes of game play from a Pogba assist, curling a beautiful shot into the far corner with his left foot. Antonio Martial made it 2-0 in the 38th minute, capitalizing on a fine assist from Pogba. Despite both sides heading into half-time with United two goals up, Stoke had several moments of inspiration with a couple of decent chances. Summer-signing Romelu Lukaku sealed the Red Devils' victory in the 72nd minute, slamming home from a Martial pinged pass. The resounding victory orchestrated by a fine performance from French star Paul Pogba saw United narrow Manchester City's lead to 12 points. This was after City lost their first league game in the hands of in-form Liverpool who thrashed them 4-3 on Sunday, January 14 at Anfield. United remain second on the log with 50 points, three more than third-placed Liverpool. Stoke on the other hand are languishing in the drop zone and will be hoping to bounce back when their newly-appointed manager Paul Lambert officially takes over.
