Angry residents of Siritanyi village in Kanduyi, Bungoma County, on Wednesday stoned to death a middle-aged man who killed both his parents and a neighbor.
24-year-old Yusuf Shiundu reportedly came home after consuming copious amounts of alcohol and smoking bhang and killed his mother by hitting her on the head with a jembe before using the same to kill Joseph Mustafa, a neighbour who had come to stop him.
He then went to a nearby Anglican Church where he got into an argument with his father, David Shindu, over his drunken habits.
The argument turned violent and Yusuf struck his father who was taken to Bungoma West Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening.
Confirming the incident, Bungoma South Assistant OCPD Alloys Orioki said the man was lynched by an angry mob near the very church where he had struck his father.
Area residents have expressed disappointment at officers from Siritanyi Police Station for not showing up at the initial crime scene on time to arrest the perceived deranged man.
The bodies were transferred to Bungoma mortuary.
