A plea by Geoffrey Rono, accused of attempting to kill Kalmely Muhumed, hoping to be released on reasonable bond terms, was quashed with a bond of Sh200,000.
Rono was accused of throwing Muhumed from the second floor balcony in Sunset Estate after the latter failed to refund Sh2, 000 Rono had loaned him.
The defiant Rono, a resident of Kisauni in Mombasa, denied the charge saying Muhumed had been taking him in circles since last year November.
“This guy (Muhumed) is my friend but keeps on saying that he will pay the debt yet he has never honoured his words, I feel cheated during these hard economic times,” he told the court.
Rono was charged with the offence on the March 30 in Kisauni and was arrested by a mob that stepped in to save Muhumed's life.
The court was told that the two argued over the debt before the accused shoved the complainant over the balcony.
Rono asked the court to release him on bond terms similar with what he was owed by his friend but Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache observed that the offence called for stiffer bond terms.
She released him on a Sh200, 000 bond awaiting mention and subsequent placement of hearing date tomorrow.
