Fire-spitting Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has lost four siblings in four years. This month, her brother Jumaa Karisa, an acrobat in China, died after falling off a flat two weeks ago.

Jumaa’s body was flown back and buried at their home in Takaungu village on August 2. But Jumwa was missing in action after being admitted to a Mombasa hospital after being overwhelmed by shock.

Jumwa was admitted at the ICU but is now out of danger, according to sources.

During the burial, Jumwa was represented by Kilifi Woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu and Coast Parliamentary Group chairman Suleiman Dori.

Mbeyu told mourners that the MP suffered from shocked arising from the loss. A source close to the politician told The Nairobian that “she is doing fine, but visitors are not allowed to disturb her because she is still weak. The doctors are keenly observing her round-the-clock.”

Three years ago, when Jumwa was the Kilifi Woman Rep, her brother and two relatives perished in a road accident while riding on a boda boda at the Komaza bus stage along the Mombasa-Malindi highway in April 2015.

The three died that afternoon after their boda boda rammed into a stalled lorry which had developed mechanical problems on its way to Mombasa.

Rashid Karisa, 25, Jumwa’s young brother and his two pillion passengers Hamisi Karisa 23 (step brother) and Stephen Kazungu 22 , (a cousin) died on the spot while heading home to Takaungu from Kilifi town.

According to police, it was not clear how the accident occurred as the driver of the lorry had placed warning signs on the road that were clearly visible.

Jumwa began her political career as an activist at the coast where she attended political meetings and yelling herself hoarse over what she termed as injustices at the coast.

Jumwa got threw herself fully into politics following her divorce. She was elected Kilifi Woman Rep after wowing crowds with songs, dance, poems, and punchy speeches in flawless Kiswahili.
