Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip loses seat after court nullifies his victory

Court of Appeal sitting in Mombasa, has ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct fresh senatorial election in Lamu county within three months.
This follows a successful appeal filed by Hassan Albeity of Wiper Party against the victory of Jubilee's Senator Anwar Loitiptip on the morning of Thursday, July 11.
The appellate judge disagreed with the ruling of the High Court which upheld the senator's win February 9.
He cited various irregularities in the August election which could have given the youngest senator undue advantage.
The youthful Anwar got 14,432 votes against his closest rival Hassan who managed 14,374 votes.
Anwar however did not address members of the press.
