Kakamega County was the hardest hit by casualties following the Kericho accident at Fortenan Tunnel flyover along Londiani-Muhoroni road.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said out of the 51 bodies that had been identified by yesterday, 22 were from the county.

He added that most of those who were still undergoing treatment at the facility were also from Kakamega.

He was speaking at Kericho District Hospital after visiting the injured and condoling with the bereaved from his county who had gone to have identify bodies of their loved ones.

Most of the casualties were travelling to the Western county from Nairobi for various occasions.

He said plans has been put in place to transport the bodies and the injured to Kakamega hospital so as to make it convenient for the relatives to visit them in hospital.

The governor said his office had set up a burial committee for the deceased and were planning to hold a joint burial mass before the relatives are allowed to pick the bodies of their loved ones for interment.

Oparanya revealed that the county government will meet all the transport and burial expenses for the victims.
