Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has again called for the arrest of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu. Mwaura said it was impunity and tribalism for the governor to remain free while the musicians behind the controversial Ikamba song had been arrested and charged. One of the composers of the controversial song, John Gichiri Njau was charged with three counts of ethnic contempt. NCIC officials say a manhunt for Gichiri’s co-accused is underway and he will also be arraigned in court for the same charges The controversy surrounding the derogatory Ikamba song is far from over, even after one singer was arrested and charged. In the song, the composers mock members of Kamba community for being poor and will eat dogs once the mango season is over. Ikamba is a response to the ongoing charcoal ban in Kitui county. Following a successful manhunt launched by anti-hate agency, National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), musician John Gichiri Njau was arraigned before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi. Together with his co-accused who was not present at the courtroom, the two were onwith three counts of ethnic contempt. But it is this arrest that had irked leaders from the Kikuyu region. Senator Isaac Mwaura on March, 13, reiterated his for sparking off the ethnic tension. He claimed it was impunity and tribalism for the ex lands cabinet secretary not be charged as well. "Isn't it telling that the two musicians who sang a song against the Kamba Community have have been charged yet Charity Ngilu is yet to be arraigned in court. If @NCIC_Kenya chair says that it's Ferdinard Waititu who started it, why is he yet to be charged almost 2 months later?", the nominated senator posed. The former ODM member of parliament had noted that the ethnic animosity witnessed between the two communities could have been avoided had the charcoal ban not been effected. John in his defense denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of KSh 700, 000. The hearing of the case was set for April 19, 2018. Millie Odhiambo warns Mike Sonko
