Motorists plying the Kapsokwony-Kiptais-Kitale road were on Monday advised to use alternative routes after the road was cut off by heavy rains at River Birunda. Charles Njogu, the assistant director of communications of the Kenya Highways Authority said in a statement that motorists can go through Kiminini via the Kitale-Webuye road to access Lukhome and Birunda. Read;  He said the authority was meanwhile working on restoring normal traffic flow on the affected section of the road. “The authority has instructed the contractor on site to construct a twin 5 by 2.5 m box culvert to enable a flow of water and restore passage of traffic on the road. The contractor on site is also carrying out remedial works on the diversion,” Njogu said. The ongoing heavy rains have hampered normal traffic flow on most roads across the country. Among the roads that have been affected include the Narok-Mai Mahiu road near Suswa where a student drowned. A man was also swept away by raging floods as he attempted to cross a flooded road in Charidende, Tana River County on Saturday. In Turkana, four trucks transporting goods to Lodwar were swept away at Kainuk river. A section of the Nakuru-Naivasha road was also rendered impassable by heavy rains on Saturday at Kamandura flyover, Limuru.
