FIFA warns broadcasters against zooming in on hot women in the crowd during football matches

World football governing body, FIFA, has put on notice broadcasters picking out “hot women” in the crowd during football matches.

FIFA is looking to crack down on cutaways of female fans during matches in as part of the federation's efforts to tackle sexism in football.

In a media briefing on Wednesday, July 11, moments before England's semi-final clash against Croatia, Fifa's diversity boss Federico Addiechi revealed the federation had advised its broadcast service to stop zooming in on “hot women” in the crowd.

He added that FIFA had been observing what the various national rights-holders were doing even as the 2018 World Cup tournament hits the homestretch.

It remains unclear if the crackdown on cutaways of female fans would become official FIFA policy, with Federico indicating that the campaign is not proactive yet.

However, he warned Fifa would "take action against things that are wrong".

On their part, the anti-discrimination group Fare Network decried growing sexism in football especially during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The organisation's executive director Piara Powar observed that contrary to the pre-tournament's concerns that Russia 2018 would be characterized by homophobia and racism, sexism had emerged as a big issue.

It was noted that several cases of women reporters being grabbed or kissed while on air had punctuated the tourney.
