- Former Man United star Ibrahimovic has hinted at playing at the World Cup

- The striker retired from national team assignment in 2016

- He is now hoping to make a return to the team having qualified for this summer's event in Russia

LA Galaxy striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hinted that his chances of playing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup championship this summer is high.

The former Manchester United superstar announced his retirement after Sweden crashed out of the 2016 UEFA European Champions at the group stage in France.

However, the 36 said on his social media handle that he will come out of retirement to gatecrash his country’s World Cup squad.

He said: The chance of me playing in the World Cup is skyhöga #FifaWorldCup2018

— Zlatan Ibrahimović (@Ibra_official) April 15, 2018

He wrote on Twitter: "The chance of me playing in the World Cup is skyhoga #FifaWorldCup2018."

"Skyhoga" translates roughly as "sky high".

Having made his senior debut with the Swedish national team in 2001, Ibrahimovic set a record of 62 goals in 116 appearances in all competitions for the European side to become the highest goal scorer.

He became the captain of his national team in 2010, and surrendered the band two years ago after announcing his retirement, with his 40-yard bicycle kick against England winning the 2013 Puskas Award.

The 36-year-old is confident of returning to national team assignment despite his two-year exile from the set up.

While at the European championship in 2016, Zlatan played all three group matches and registered just one shot on target in over 270 minutes.

Meanwhile, he faces a risk of not featuring for his country in this summer’s global events in Russia due to his partnership with Malta-based betting company Bethard.

But the man himself said: "Fifa can't stop me. If I want to be there, I'll be there.

"Just as with the national team, if I want to play, I'll play. This is not a question for Fifa, it's a question for me and what I want."

Ibrahimovic only joined his major League Soccer side in March and he has scored three goals in three matches – two of those goals came in their 4-3 win over Los Angeles FC in his debut fixture.

He has represented top European clubs and has won prestigious titles and awards during his illustrious football career.

Topping the list of awards the Swedish striker won was the Europa League title which he won with Manchester United in the 2016-17 season.

He also won the EFL Cup that same season with several other League titles at the various blubs he has played for until now.
