Croatian press hit back at English media after knocking Three Lions out of 2018 World Cup

Croatian media launched scathing attacks on England in retaliation to their over-confident World Cup hype that had dismissed Croatia, already envisioning a France vs England affair in the final.

Croatia national broadcaster, HRT, was highly critical of England following their slim 2-1 victory over the former 1966 world champions in the 2018 world Cup semi finals.

The Vercenji list newspaper did not spare the English any sympathy, branding headlines that totally bashed England for a performance they labelled as substandard.

According to Guardian, Vercenji's website used an unusual amount of space to boast over ousting Three Lions with mocking headlines such as "Football's not coming home," and "The arrogance hit them back".

The Croats were so eager to rub salt on England's wounds to the extent of publishing a photo gallery titled " Look how the English cry after loosing to Croatia."

Telesport's Juraj Vrdoljak compared Croatia's second-half come back to an "adrenaline-driven man lifting a truck to save his child", showering praise on the Croatian national team's effort.
