Chebuyusi results remain cancelled

A court has been told results of 190 candidates of Chebuyusi High School are still cancelled following a second probe.

However, through their lawyer, the parents asked the court to suspend the decision by Kenya National Examination Council, arguing that fresh investigations carried out by the agency were a sham.

In March, Justice George Odunga (pictured) declared the decision to cancel the results unlawful because due process was not followed.

Odunga, however, directed Knec to carry out fresh investigations to establish whether they will cancel the results or not.

In an affidavit filed by director of examinations administration Imelda Barasa, Knec says on March 21 it invited parents for a meeting. They were given a chance to be heard before action was taken on allegations that irregularities were committed by the KCSE candidates.

The council further claimed none of the representatives of the candidates rebutted the facts of the report.

The principal said the school had registered the affected students to resit the exam this year.

Knec argued that by supplying the candidates with the investigations report and giving them an opportunity to be heard on March 28, they fulfilled the conditions imposed on them by the court.

Barasa said Knec’s mandate demands fairness for all candidates.

The case will be mentioned on June 13.
