Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU-K) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Wednesday paid a courtesy call to former President Daniel arap Moi at his Kabarak home.

According to a statement sent to newsrooms, Mr. Atwoli thanked Moi for “leaving the country united and peaceful” during their talks that lasted for one and a half hours.

Atwoli further said “COTU-K was indebted by Mzee’s kindness and support and will always remain ideal to his rallying call of peace, love and unity.”

“Mzee Moi said peaceful co-existence among Kenyans was key to social, and economic progress,” reads the statement from Moi’s press team which also stated that the talks focused on national unity.

The COTU-K boss was flanked by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket.

The visit by Atwoli comes barely a week after the country celebrated Moi Day, a public holiday in honour of the former Head of State.

According to a statement from Moi’s acting press secretary Alex Kiprotich sent on October 10, 2018, the retired Commander-in-Chief marked Moi Day quietly at his Kabarak home with family and friends.
