Former Kenya national volleyball team captain Bernard Musumba will lead Central Bank of Kenya’s (CBK) title defence during the 34th edition of the Inter-Banks games.
This week-long championship, consisting 33 financial institutions competing in 23 disciplines including football, volleyball and basketball, will take place at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, KCB Sports Club, and Stima Club in Ruaraka, from Saturday.
The inter-banks golf tournament will be staged at the Vetlab Golf club.
Meanwhile, Musumba who enjoyed his decade-long stint with the national team and was also a regular at GSU volleyball club, led the banking regulator to their first ever title in this discipline last year following a thrilling 3-2 sets final victory over KCB.
"We are here mainly to have fun and entertain our supporters who are our clients but we still maintain the desire to win matches," said Musumba
“These games not only provide entertainment to our clients but also provide opportunities for us to benchmark, bond and interact,” added Kennedy Nzinga, the Kenya Institute of Bankers sports chairman during the launch on Thursday.
KPMG, Eco Bank, Housing Finance Group and Kenya Bankers Sacco are some of the debutants in the annual championship and are set to rub shoulders against Chase Bank, Commercial Bank of Africa, Consolidated Bank and Kenya Commercial Bank.
CBK were the overall winners of last year’s edition of these games, closely followed by Equity Bank and Barclays Bank in that order.
Bank of Africa were awarded the Most Valuable team for exhibiting discipline and fair play.
