Politicians from Uhuru’s backyard have assured the Deputy President William Ruto of the Kikuyu vote come 2022. The MPs led by Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu said they owe the DP a debt which must be repaid in the next elections.
“As Mt Kenya region, we have seen what you have done to us since 2013 and in 2017. Without you, Uhuru would not have been the President. Last year you campaigned for him and he won again. We are waiting for 2022 so that we can repay you for your good deeds,” said Waititu in Thika during a church service last weekend.
Waititu’s sentiments were echoed by Thika MP Patrick Wainaina who assured the DP that they will give him the top seat.
“We will kneel down before God so that we can pray that the door for the one he has opened becomes the president in 2022,” Wainaina said.
Meanwhile, a Kakamega Senator has asked DP Ruto to pick youthful candidate from Western Kenya to deputise him in the 2022 presidential run.
According to Senate Deputy Minority Leader Cleophas Malala, marriage between Western region and the Rift valley would guarantee the DP of a clear win come 2022.
“Young leaders like me have taken over the western leadership. I am the one who will give the political direction and I am ready to talk with Deputy President William Ruto for a way forward with us,” said Malala.
The senator added that Mt Kenya region had benefited for far too long at the expense of other Kenyans.
