Matters recently went to a head after Nairobi County Assembly Speaker denied MCS permission to take a leak.

Temporary Speaker Kennedy Obuya turned down a request by Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto to go for a pee on June 7 while the Assembly was in session.

Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto interrupted business asking for a pee break. A similar request by Kware MCA Rose Adhiambo also fell on deaf ears.

“Just give us permission we rush to the loo and return to the Assembly. Mr Speaker, we are women and not men,” she pleaded.

Speaker Obuya was not impressed by members who appeared determined to go for a leak outside

Speaker Obuya advised complaining members to utilise the washrooms near his desk. He also instructed the Sergeant-at-arms to restrain members from exiting Chambers.

Nominated MCA Catherine Okoth went against the directive, and shoved aside female security detail before walking out saying: “I have to pee”.

“Chair has today noted with great concern members lack of appreciation of House rules on decorum. The Chair does not take lightly breaches of the Standing Orders and our rules.

“Hon. Members, the Chair has directed that the conduct of Hon. Catherine Okoth be referred to the Powers and Privileges Committee for review,” Obuya directed.
